Palm trees, volcanos, snakes, lions, coconuts and any other kind of island themed decor you can think of is draping the walls. Our church building is looking like “Arrow Island”! Teachers, helpers, and children have filled the halls and classrooms for the start of GRIBT‘s first day of 2014 Vacation Bible Time!
We love VBT here at GRIBT! It is most definitely a highlight of our year. And today was the fruition of all the planning, preparing, and most important praying leading up to this week. Here are some highlights from today:
- Hard Work. If you have ever helped or served in or lead a ministry event, you know that it takes hard work, and lots of it. You also know that it is good to have a lot of help, but it’s great to have GREAT help. Those who will work just as hard as you have in preparing the event. Though many months of hard work have already been put into VBT, the first day always seems to present last-minute kinks. But nothing stopped us! From start to finish everyone worked hard from setting up, teaching up, and cleaning up. We have a great crew!
- Excitement. If you are going to bring an exciting Vacation Bible Time (aka Vacation Bible School), or any event for that matter, the leaders must be excited themselves. There was definitely no lack of excitement from our workers and teachers today. From teachers in the classroom, to bus drivers, to those in the kitchen making lunches and snacks, everyone had smiles on their faces and a glow of excitement about them! This filled our day with an atmosphere easily caught by the children. That’s how it’s done!
- Attendance. Although we know that “numbers” are not the most important thing, numbers do mean something-and that is children! And those children are souls. In my 4th and 5th grade boys class, we had 19 boys total with 5 workers. My teaching partner, Andy Sirois, taught a great lesson from the story of Adam & Eve on the consequences of disobeying God, and making right decisions in life starting with trusting in Christ as your personal Savior. Praise the Lord for these and 210 total precious souls to minister and present the Good News to today! That’s what it’s all about!
I believe we started off the week on the right foot and can’t wait to see what the rest of it holds!
